Need to make yourself a zoo, but you don’t have animals around? No problem! Today we will make zoo animals using cups and other things you likely have around the house.
The first thing you will need is a cup. I used the little foam cups (the kind that are often used for hot chocolate), but any kind of cup will work. I liked the foam cups best because you can draw on them AND it is easy to poke pipe cleaners into them.
Decide what animal you want to make and what color that animal is. I decided to make a tiger, so I wanted to color my cup orange. You can use crayons to color, but I found that markers work much better. You can also use paints if you have them! Color your cup the color of your animal.
Now you need to add some details. Does your animal have stripes or spots? What can you add to help your cup look like your animal? I added stripes to my tiger. You will also want to give you animal a face, so I drew a nose and mouth. I also added googly eyes, but you can draw your eyes on also. You could even print some eyes from your computer! Be creative! What can you do to give your animal details and a face?
I wanted my animal to have ears and a tail, so I decided to use a pipe cleaner to make those. I didn’t have orange, so I used yellow. It doesn’t have to be perfect! The pipe cleaners poke nicely into the foam cup, so I made them the shape I wanted and then poked the ends right in. Now I have a tiger I can add to my zoo!
I asked my boys to help me add to my zoo, so they created a zebra and a penguin. What animals are you going to make for your zoo?
