PreK Tidbit – Stroke Cards

Stroke cards are one of the many fun tools we use in Preschool! What are stroke cards? They are cards that feature a series of lines, shapes, or patterns that children can trace with things like their fingers, a stylus, or a marker, or they can cover the shapes with small objects. They provide a hands-on way to develop early writing skills. By tracing the strokes, children improve their fine motor control and hand-eye coordination, which are essential for writing. Stroke cards also help kids recognize and practice the basic strokes that form letters and numbers, laying a strong foundation for literacy and numeracy.

We love to use small objects like buttons to cover the lines on our stroke cards. This helps the children develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It’s a fun, hands-on way to learn and play simultaneously!
