A discovery bottle is a great way to practice using your sense of sight! Here is an easy way to make one for yourself:
First, find a water bottle that you can use. Any water bottle will work, but I like to use bottles with smooth sides if I can find one.
Next, gather items you would like to put in your bottle. Look all around the house for things you can use! (But be sure to ask your mom first!) Make sure the things you find will fit in the top opening of you bottle. 🙂
Take a picture of the things you find. You will want to know what you are looking for later! I printed the picture so we could keep it with the bottle.
Now you will need to get some rice and a measuring cup or something you can scoop rice with. You also might want to find a funnel if you have one. It makes the job much easier!
Put a little rice into your bottle, then add some of the items you collected. Continue to alternate rice and objects until all of your items have been added. Finish filling the bottle with rice until you are about and inch from the top. You can play around with more or less rice until you find the perfect amount. You want just enough space at the top that the items can move around in the rice and you can shake it around.
Put the lid on and you are ready to play! You might want to seal the lid shut with some hot glue or E6000, or whatever glue you have available. This will keep you from accidentally opening it and having a terrible mess of rice to clean up!
Start searching for your items. How many can you find?
